Beanstalk is better on the go! New mobile web views have arrived.

For our last retreat in Spain we were asked to come up with “secret projects”. As a designer I had a hard time coming up with a feature that wouldn’t require any help from developers, but once I tried to check some commits on my iPhone I realized that viewing Beanstalk on a mobile device was exactly the thing I wanted to make better.

The result is Beanstalk’s new mobile layout. For the CSS geeks out there, this was done using the responsive design technique and works on any iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android phone.

Mobile layout for dashboard and changeset

Some of our earliest customers may remember we used to have a special iPhone view in the past, but for It was released soon after the first iPhone come out when usage was much lower and it required too much maintenance – every time a new feature or update had to be designed separately for the iPhone. Even worse, it limited features for our users, so we decided to get rid of it.

The new mobile layout is a set of CSS rules designed to make everything prettier on small screens. We were careful not to limit mobile users, so nearly all features are available in mobile layout. Also, if you are subscribed to email digests, try viewing them out on your iPhone – we’ve optimized them for small screens, too!

We love bringing you features like this mobile view to help your productivity and make you enjoy Beanstalk more. Of course, if you’re looking for a native iOS experience, you can also check out Magic Bean and Habichuelas, two great options developed by Beanstalk customers.
